The Hungarian government funds various grant and scholarship programmes to facilitate the internationalisation of the Hungarian higher education system. Foreign students can apply for different study modes from bachelor to PhD programmes. The types of scholarship opportunities available for foreign students, including PhD students, are listed below in detail. 

 

 

TheStipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme was launched in 2013 by the Hungarian Government. The core mission of the programme is to increase the number of foreign students in Hungary and to encourage Hungarian higher education institutions to attract top foreign students.

Students can apply for study programmes at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels, and preparatory courses as well. Apart from the tuition-free education, the programme provides a monthly stipend, medical insurance and housing allowance for the scholarship holders.

Doctoral programmes are available full-time (2 + 2 years) and part-time (partial exchange for 1 or 2 semesters) study modes.

International grant and scholarship programmes are designed to help students, professors and young professionals explore opportunities abroad on all study levels. CEEPUS is a mobility scholarship programme in the field of higher education, designed to support student and teacher exchanges, the organisation of summer schools, special courses and student excursions by developing long-term academic cooperation between partner institutions within the participating countries. The programme strengthens the strategic role of the CEE region.

Applications can be submitted to accredited higher education institutions of the participating countries: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia.

The CEEPUS mobility scholarship offers:

  • Student mobility for one semester or trimester for all study levels (3 to 5 months). 
  • Short term mobility for students working on bachelor/master thesis, or doctoral dissertation ( 1 or 2 months). 
  • Short term excursions and study visits.
