The fourth wave of COVID-19 is present in the country.

As of November 1, 2021, masks are required on public transport. Masks are still required in medical facilities.

Entry into hotels, stores, restaurants, baths and water parks is possible without an immunity certificate. However, immunity certificates may still be required for large gatherings, such as sporting events or music festivals.

Find and follow updated information of COVID-19 cases in Hungary on abouthungary.hu and ECDC's COVID-19 situation dashboard.

From 1 July 2021, the EU digital COVID certificate is available and active across the EU and is accepted when crossing Hungarian borders.

The certificate is valid across all 27 EU countries, as well as in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Holding the certificate is not a precondition for exercising free movement rights and it is not a travel document.

The EU digital COVID certificate facilitates safe and free movement during the COVID-19 pandemic. The certificate, which is available in digital and paper format, provides proof that:

  1. a person has either been vaccinated against COVID-19,
  2. received a negative PCR test result,
  3. recovered from COVID-19.

For Hungarian citizens and foreign residents vaccinated in Hungary, the EU digital COVID certificate can be obtained from the EESZT information portal in a paper or digital format. The certificate can also be downloaded to smartphones through the EESZT Covid Control application.

EU digital COVID certificate holders from any EU country can enter Hungary without restrictions or quarantine and enjoy all services provided.

As vaccinations reached 5.5 million, masks are no longer required outdoors. However, it is obligatory again to wear a mask on public transport and medical facilities. It is also advised to wear the mask in other indoor facilities as well. People are allowed to go to hotels, restaurants, baths and water parks without an immunity certificate. The use of immunity certificates issued by the Hungarian government or the EU Covid Certificate is maintained for mass events, such as sports events, concerts, festivals and nightclubs.

Restrictions on the business hours of shops and restaurants are lifted.

Vaccination in Hungary is voluntary and free of charge. From 4 May 2021, foreign residents in Hungary can apply for the vaccination through this link: https://vakcinainfo.gov.hu/registration.

It is possible to require a third shot of the vaccine as well.

Resident foreigners and Hungarian citizens abroad will be entitled to an immunity card once vaccinated.

Foreign residents and Hungarian citizens living abroad without a social insurance number can now register for a coronavirus vaccine jab via the link provided above.
